LPN (Nights) FT
HOURS: Full-time, Night shift, 7pm-7am. Some weekend work required.

The Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible for providing patient care during the pre/post operative period and during a medical illness based on current standards of medical/surgical nursing. Functions within the permissible scope of nursing practice as defined by the Georgia Board of Nursing and Dodge County hospital’s policies and procedures.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assists RN in collection of physical-psycho-social data on assigned patients utilizing all available resources (Ex. Patient, significant others, medical records, other health care professionals, etc.).
• Updates patient problems, list/nursing diagnosis and expected goal/outcomes of nursing interventions based on all available assessment data.
• Performs on-going assessments recognizing obvious changes in patient’s physical and mental status as well as abnormal test results and notifies charge nurse and/or physician.
• Collaborates with RN in development of plan of care based on nursing and medical diagnosis, nursing standards of care/practice, and patient needs (including growth and development) in conjunction with patient, patient’s family or significant others, and other members of the health care team and modifies plan as required by changing patient needs.
• Assists RN in development of patient discharge plan utilizing available resources (Ex. Patient, significant others, social services, physicians, etc.).
• Performs technical aspects of patient care according to established policies and procedures; adapts techniques to growth and developmental stage for patient and unique patient needs.
• Provides education for patient and significant others (Ex. Explanation of procedures, therapeutic and adverse effects of medication, drug and food interactions, and discharge plans) utilizing available teaching resources and documents patient or significant other’s understanding in medical records.
• Demonstrates the ability to initiate life support measures and performs effectively in Code Pink procedure.
• Documents nursing interventions, the effectiveness of nursing interventions, and patient response in the patient’s medical record according to established procedures as outlined in the policy and procedures manual and communicates this information to other members of the health care team.
• Demonstrates accountability for administration, observation, documentation, and reporting effects of drugs, intravenous procedures, other diagnostic and therapeutic measures in an accurate and safe manner.
• Demonstrates responsibility for proper use and safe keeping of all controlled medications kept on the nursing unit and monitors the administration and documentation of use.
• Transcribes and/or counter signs physician orders; receives physician orders for assigned patients.
• Maintains the dignity, rights, and confidentiality of the patient; serves as a patient advocate at all times.
• Participates in the evaluation of the quality of patient care and continuous quality improvement activities.
• Participates in hospital emergency, fire, and disaster drills; knows personal role in case of a fire and demonstrates the ability to direct the activities of the nursing unit in the event of an emergency situation or patient evacuation.
• Follows hospital and departmental policies and procedures including but not limited to safety and infection control.
• Acts as a preceptor for new employees as assigned.
• Assumes the responsibility of the one to three ancillary staff as designated: Nursing Assistants, Advanced Nursing Assistants, Unit Clerks.
• Adheres to dress code. Wears identification while on duty.
• Attends committee meetings as appropriate.
• Reports to work on time and as scheduled.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:
• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing and current licensure in the State of Georgia.
• Successful completion of Dodge County Hospital’s medication administration evaluation.
• Ability to proficiently perform all essential job responsibilities after three-month orientation period.
• Requires 5 basic units of DCH education units per year.
• BLS Certification preferred.
• Requires DCH mandatory annual training.

EXPERIENCE:
• Previous medical/surgical nursing experience preferred.
