Radiologic Technologist (PRN)
HOURS: PRN. Shift and hours vary.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Registered Radiologic Technologist (ARRT-R) performs diagnostic radiographic procedures to produce high-quality images for physician interpretation. This position provides safe, compassionate, and patient-centered care while following ARRT standards, hospital policies, and radiation safety principles. Technologists collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professional to ensure quality patient outcomes.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Performs routine and specialized diagnostic radiographic examinations as ordered by licensed providers.
• Verify patient identity using approved patient identification procedures.
• Review physician orders for accuracy and appropriateness.
• Explain imaging procedures and obtain patient cooperation.
• Position patients correctly to obtain diagnostic-quality images.
• Operate digital radiography and imaging equipment according to manufacturer guidelines.
• Evaluate images for quality and repeat examinations only when medically necessary.
• Practice radiation safety using ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principles.
• Apply appropriate shielding and radiation protection techniques.
• Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR) and Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS).
• Assist radiologists and physicians during fluoroscopic or other imaging procedures as assigned.
• Observe patients for changes in condition and respond appropriately.
• Safely transport and assist patients as needed.
• Maintain imagine equipment and report malfunctions promptly.
• Maintain department cleanliness and stock supplies.
• Participate in quality improvement and patient safety indicatives.
• Follow HIPAA, OSHA, infection prevention, and hospital safety policies.
• Participate in weekend, holiday, evening, night, and on-call rotations as assigned.
• Mentors new employees as requested.
• Performs other related job duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

• Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program recognized by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT).
• Requires 5 basic units of DCH education units per year.
• Requires DCH mandatory annual training.
• Ability to read, legibly write, follow instructions, and perform simple mathematical calculations.

EXPERIENCE:

• Hospital or outpatient radiology experience preferred.
• New graduates with current ARRT registration may be considered.

LICENSURE, REGISTRATIONS, & CERTIFICATIONS:

• Requires current valid license, and/or registration or certifications as an American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
• Maintains a current certification in Basic Life Support (If BLS verification is not current upon hire, it must be obtained within three (3) months of hire.)
• Must maintain ARRT registration and continuing education requirements.
