Ultrasound Tech (PRN)
HOURS: 8am-8pm, Days vary.

Registered preferred.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Registered Ultrasound Echo Technologist performs high-quality diagnostic ultrasound and echocardiographic examinations to assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. This position provides compassionate, patient-centered care while ensuring accurate image acquisition, maintaining equipment, and adhering to professional standards, hospital policies, and applicable state and federal regulations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations in accordance with physician orders and departmental protocols.
• Perform transthoracic echocardiograms and other cardiac ultrasound procedures within the scope of practice.
• Obtain high-quality diagnostic images and measurements for physician interpretation.
• Verify patient identity and review physician orders before examinations.
• Explain procedures and prepare patients for testing.
• Assesses patient history and identify clinical indications relevant to the examination.
• Recognize normal and abnormal anatomy and promptly communicate urgent findings according to hospital policy.
• Document examination findings accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR) and imaging systems.
• Maintain ultrasound and echocardiography equipment and report equipment issues promptly.
• Assist physicians with ultrasound-guided procedures as appropriate.
• Maintain infection prevention and control practices.
• Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA.
• Participate in weekends, holidays, evening, and on-call rotations as assigned.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work in designated time.
• Adheres to dress code; appearance is neat and clean.

EDUCATION:

• Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography or Cardiovascular Technology program.
• Requires 5 basic units of DCH education units per year.

EXPERIENCE:

• One year of ultrasound or echocardiology experience preferred.
• New graduates with applicable registry credentials may be considered.
• Knowledge and understanding of general anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.

LICENSURE, REGISTRATION, & CERTIFICATIONS:

• Current Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS), or
• Current Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) through ARDMS, or
• Current Registered Cardio Sonographer (RCS) through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI), depending on the services performed
• ARRT and/or ARDMS certification.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
