CNA (Nights) FT
HOURS: Full-time, Night shift. 7pm-7am. Some weekend work required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Prepares patient care area for patient admission.
• Assists in maintaining a safe and clean environment by maintaining orderliness of room, reporting equipment that is out of order, reporting other problems to management, cleaning equipment, as assigned, same for disinfection, handling clean and dirty linen according to infection control policy.
• Assist nurse in initial portion of patient assessment, i.e., height/weight, vital signs, room orientation. Packs and unpacks patients’ belongings in preparation of admission, transfer, or discharge.
• Assist in the provision of general patient care including hygiene measures, dressing patient, changing linen, distributing water, meals, and other nourishment, backrubs, lifting and turning, assisting in elimination needs, ambulation, application of binders or anti-embolism hose, obtains and records temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, weight, and intake/output measurements.
• Assists in positioning and ambulating patients as directed by the nurse.
• Performs routine treatment procedures including surgical prep, enemas, application of appliances for heat and cold sitz baths, catheter care and assist nurse in other treatment procedures.
• Responds to patients’ call lights, conducts frequent rounds to check patient’s status and patients’ comfort needs.
• Collects and transports specimens to laboratory.
• Transports patients to and from various departments as requested.
• Reports, and when appropriate records, unusual incidents and changes observed in condition or behavior of patient to nurse.
• Practices careful, efficient, and non-wasteful use of supplies and linen, and follows established charge procedure for patient charge items.
• Provides post-mortem care.
• Maintains the respect, rights, and confidentiality of patients at all times.
• Adheres to all hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
• Responds to Dr. Red and Code 9 as assigned.
• Basic life support training as assigned.
• Assist in stocking of supplies in patient areas, storage room, storage carts, etc.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

• Requires a high school diploma or a GED state certification.
• Completion of recognized nurse’s assistant course or equivalent work experience.
• Successful completion of a basic clinical skills demonstration.
• Ability to proficiently perform all essential job responsibilities after three-month orientation period.
• Requires 5 basic units of DCH education units per year
• Requires DCH mandatory annual training
• Ability to read, legibly write, and comprehend medical terminology, follow instructions, and perform simple mathematical calculations.

EXPERIENCE:

• Requires up to one year of work-related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

EDUCATION:

• Completion of recognized nurse’s assistant course.
